SQL Express Instance Issue after Attaching Computer to a Domain (IT Issue)
Posted by DVMInsight Support2, Last modified by DVMInsight Support1 on 03 February 2014 04:41 PM

After converting a system from stand alone to a domain network SQL Express ceases to work, or reports that the user does not have right to access the SQL instance.

This is the result of an issue with mis-matched SUID's and will report back that there is an issue with SPNs.

The procedure to fix this and many "SQL Express Instance" authentication issues is the same.

1.  Stop all instances of SQL Express and be sure to end any tasks of SQLServer.exe in the task manager.

2. Navigate to C:\users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS

3. Delete the Master and TempDB files from this folder.

4. Restart the SQL Express Instances.
